Organisation and Performance Consultancy

Welcome to GrowthHUB

The GrowthHUB Group is a specialist management consulting practice, operating across Europe, Middle East and Asia from our Dubai base.

Your workforce is your organisation’s greatest source of sustainable competitive advantage, and your greatest risk! Striking the balance between the two is something precious few organisations get right – those who do, win in their market – guaranteed.

We help owners, CEOs and HR leaders focus in on the aspects of talent management that make a fundamental difference to an organisation’s performance. We’ve worked  with billion $ startups, right through to restructuring 40 year old family conglomerates and private offices. But we also support the SME sector too – an often neglected segment in the consulting world.

No two engagements are the same, our projects range from supporting entire HR transformations to providing technical / subject matter expertise in focused areas of Human Resources such as strategic workforce planning, organisation development, leadership development and compensation & benefits.

We take care of the technical aspects of your talent agenda, freeing up leaders in your organisation do what they do best.

John Butterworth

Founder

I founded GrowthHUB in 2016 with a clear purpose, to enable organisations of any size to access common-sense, no-nonsense advice and support that makes a tangible and visible difference. We’ve designed our approach to client engagements in a way that will leave you delighted – delivering value way beyond the project deliverables at a fraction of the cost of using a tier 1 consulting firm as keep our overheads low.

Our unique approach combines traditional consulting methodologies, with extensive real world leadership experience – and this makes a difference. Our team have walked in your shoes, have faced your problems as a leader in an organisation, so we’re able to combine these experiences to deliver vastly superior outcomes to a traditional consulting engagement.

Our team knows what it takes to get all the constituent parts of organisations to perform to their best, not just through theory and models, but because we’ve done the hard yards throughout our careers.

 OUR SERVICES

Strategic Workforce Planning

Strategic workforce planning validates that anorganisation has the capability and capacity to
deliver the business strategy.

Without the right people at the right time, place and cost,
companies risk eroding their competitiveness because people — not technologies —are still the differentiators in the digital era.

Scenario-based strategic
workforce planning is based on a foundation of HR analytics. We support organisations to improve their analytics capability from descriptive to predictive.

Compensation & Benefits

Effective systems of reward help an organisation become more competetive, retain key staff and reduce turnover.

We support clients with job evaluation, benchmarking pay and benefits and development of both fixed and variable reward components ranging from sales incentives, employee share options and executive compensation.

We’re experienced in all the main job evaluation tools such as Hay, Mercer, Towers Watson, and even design bespoke approaches where it is right for the client.

Organisation Design & Alignment

Although every organisation is different, and there is no set formula for determining the
design, organisational design is a step-by-step methodology which identifies dysfunctional aspects of workflow, procedures, structures and systems.

We ensure your structures, culture, governance, policies, technology and all other artefacts of the ‘organisation’ are aligned with your vision, mission, values and organisation’s wider strategy.

Managing Performance

A comprehensive performance management approach is an essential element of attracting and retaining key employees, thus significantly improving the organisation’s performance.

Yet we often see approaches to PM, where unwittingly theprogram design, drives unwanted outcomes and behaviours, which are a major drag on organisation-wide performance.

We work closely with our clients to understand their needs, to design programs which ensure the entire workforce is pulling in the same direction.

Talent Acquisition Strategy

We work in partnership with some of the biggest and best recruitment and executive search agencies in the world – our partners are a vital part of our business.

We don’t undertake search assignments ourselves, but we do support with the strategic aspect of how your organisation acquires new talent.

We develop your employer brand, identify critical jobs and associated sourcing strategies, assessment of candidates and effective pre-boarding and  on-boarding of new hires to reduce a new hire’s time to 100% productivity

Employee Engagement

An engaged workforce is the outcome of creating the right conditions for members of an organisation to give their best each day, committed to shared goals and values, motivated to contribute, with an enhanced sense of their own well-being.

It is an approach that contributes to enhanced individual performance, productivity and well-being which roll up to create higher performing teams, divisions and organisations.

We support clients with development of measurement tools, evaluation and facilitation of action planning.

Employee Relations & Investigations

Managing disputes is a natural consequence of having a workforce. However we often see ER as a HR activity in less mature models where Line Managers lack the appropriate training and experience to manage such matters, with legal consequences.

We believe prevention is better than cure, supporting clients in the development of robust employment contracts, policies and clearly documented processes. These steps combine to prevent the majority of disputes occurring.

We offer case management services in the event of sensitive or complex investigations and help you to stay on the right side of the law!

Sale/Purchase Support

When considering acquiring a business, the investor naturally conduct financial analysis to assess value and potential of a business. Yet given the key component of the organisation is always talent, nobody ever looks at the value creation opportunity that lies within a workforce that is not optimised for success – and they rarely consider this post-acquisition too.

We’ve developed a unique approach to valuing unrealised potential (and fat) in the way a business manages talent. We support both pre and post acquisition, working with Private Equity, Private Offices and Asset Managers to identify value creation opportunities.

What Our Clients Think

At KAUST, we are in a unique environment, where we don’t just operate one of the world’s leading research universities, but a city which would eventually be home to more than 10,000 people. John was engaged as a strategy consultant during 2013 and 2014, on a wide ranging brief that covered compensation & benefits review, employee engagement action planning, and our strategic workforce planning program.

He developed and executed a vision for a HR Analytics program on an unprecedented scale to drive our strategic workforce planning initiatives. Whilst influencing our hiring decisions, these insights in turn drove accommodation, healthcare and education infrastructure requirements along with wide-ranging improvements to our IB schooling system.

The HR analytics program was the centrepiece of our SWFP program, but achieved a globally unique status by essentially becoming a program that not only planned an entire city, but identified the links between non-workplace behaviour, to what happened in the workplace. This is testament to John’s vision and ambition to test the boundaries of what is possible for clients.

Caroline Knowles, Head of HR Transformation

King Abdullah University of Science & Technology (KAUST), Saudi Arabia

We are a 40 year old family business, entrepreneurial yet conservative. Over an intensive 4 month period, John systematically evaluated our our challenges and opportunities, developed a clear and actionable plan for rapid transformation. We addressed the core building blocks of HR such as our contracts and policies and data, then moved on to addressing hiring practices, culture and our compensation structure with a particular focus on designing sales incentives that drive the right behaviours.

He also implemented a HR system and hired a Head of HR with the capability to take this work forwards. It was an enlightening and educational experience working with John from a strategic HR perspective, everything that was done within the project was laser-focused on the organisation’s future direction and designed to enhance our workforce’s performance, and he went the extra mile beyond the scope of the project. If he saw an issue out of scope, he fixed it for us without hesitation or additional expense. In the time since the project we have seen significantly improved sales performance, higher retention rates across the company and a better quality of hire, all of which have resulted in a more motivated and engaged workforce.
